Investigation powers

The ICAC has extensive powers listed in Part 4 of the ICAC Act to gather information to assist in the performance of a function under the Act.

The ICAC can investigate if there is information that tends to show improper conduct may have occurred, is occurring or could occur.

The ICAC's actions are subject to public scrutiny through:

  • oversight by the ICAC Inspector
  • an annual report for the Legislative Assembly
  • oversight by the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on ICAC
  • judicial review by the Northern Territory Supreme Court.
