The ICAC Act includes certain protections for people who provide information or make a report about suspected improper conduct.
Protections may also be extended to witnesses who are required to give evidence during an ICAC investigation.
At the time you make a report you should say or write that you want the information you are providing to be a protected communication.
The person receiving the information may tell you that the information you have provided is a protected communication.
You may also apply to the ICAC for a declaration of a protected communication. The ICAC will consider your application using criteria listed under section 94 of the ICAC Act.
It is important to understand that these protections may not be provided where a person gives information that is false or misleading or that they do not reasonably believe to be true.
